You Can Just Call Her "Doc"
Dr. Mary Jane Minkin is a board-certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist who works in private practice in New Haven,
Connecticut, and a Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yale University School of Medicine.
Once a Jersey Girl
Mary Jane was born in Baltimore but grew up in New Jersey (which explains the accent). She attended Brown
University and then Yale University School of Medicine where she also did her residency training in obstetrics
and gynecology.
A Passion for Menopause
While women's health is her area of expertise, Mary Jane has a special interest in menopause (in case you
hadn't noticed). She is an active member of the North American Menopause Society and is a Certified Menopause
Clinician. She serves as medical advisor to the national menopause support group, the Red Hot Mamas (run by our
resident Diva).
Spreading the Knowledge
Doc is a leader in women's health education and is lead author or coauthor of books and articles in numerous
peer-reviewed journals. With such a breadth of knowledge, it may come as no surprise that one of Mary Jane's
favorite hobbies is teaching. Her mantle is crowded with teaching awards including three Resident's Teaching
Awards.
A Diva at Heart
Besides being the women's health editor of Prevention Magazine, Doc is regularly interviewed by the media,
including Newsweek, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, and Women's Health. She has also dished our her knowledge on Good
Morning America and The Today Show.
Family Ties
Mary Jane and her husband Steve live in Guilford, Connecticut. Their 22-year-old daughter Allegra attends her
mom's alma mater, Brown University, and has big plans to change the world with a major in political theory.
Their sports-loving 20-year-old son Max is finishing his first year at Stanford University and inherited his
mother's love for math but has yet to take an interest in menopause.
