A Red Hot Cause
Karen Giblin knows a little something about menopausal health. In 1991, Karen underwent a total hysterectomy with bilateral oophorectomy, which caused the onset of surgical menopause. Her experiences with menopause and estrogen therapy prompted her to start Red Hot Mamas (redhotmamas.org), the nation’s largest menopause education program. Red Hot Mamas has been providing midlife women’s health information and support for nearly twenty years.
A Diva of Many Hats
Between directing an award-winning Web site and finding somewhere to put all of the trophies, Diva somehow finds time to act as Editor-in-Chief of the Red Hot Mamas monthly e-newsletter, The Menopause Minute, dishing out the latest news, information and tips on living with menopause and beyond. On top of all of that, Diva has even gotten a taste of public office—she has served three terms as Selectman in the town of Ridgefield, CT.
Sharing Knowledge
Diva has shared her insight, knowledge, and sizzling advice in a wide variety of national media and press from The Wall Street Journal to WebMD to Harper's Bazaar. And like a true diva, she has appeared on the small screen numerous times including on The Today Show and Good Morning America.
Old School Doc & Diva
Before Karen received her official "Diva" title (in a top-secret ceremony), she and Doc coauthored The Manual of Management Counseling for the Perimenopausal and Menopausal Patient. Try saying that three times fast! Diva has also been lead investigator and presenter of various research projects on women's health.
Earning Her Wings
Diva is a proud member of the International Menopause Society and travelled to Zurich, Switzerland, in March 2008 to address their "First Global Summit on Menopause-Related Issues" with a presentation titled "Perceptions From the Woman's Point of View: Altered, Bewildered and Confused" about women's perceptions of hormone therapy after the Women's Health Initiative Study.
